Becoming a mentor on TalkShop is easy. Here’s a straightforward breakdown of how bookings, payments, sessions, and scheduling work so you always know what to expect. If you haven’t read it already, please take a look at our Guide to Being a Great Mentor on TalkShop
You control your availability.
Set the days and times you’re available in your TalkShop profile. Students can only request times you’ve opened up.
When a student books you:
You’ll get an email notification with the session details.
You must accept the request for the session to be confirmed.
If you don’t accept, the session will not happen and you will not be paid.
Important: accepting a session is your commitment to show up. Repeated cancellations can result in your profile being suspended.
After you accept:
The session is officially scheduled.
You and the student will receive a calendar invite with the session link.
You will also see the booking inside your TalkShop dashboard.
Sessions are held directly on TalkShop’s platform. All you need is a computer, decent Wi-Fi, and a quiet space. We highly encourage you to use a desktop vs. mobile device for your sessions.
Session Types:
30-minute session
60-minute session
The student selects the length when booking.
During the session:
Click the session link in your email or dashboard at the scheduled time.
Meet with your student, answer their questions, and share your experience.
When the session ends, you’re done—no extra forms or follow-ups required.
You must complete the session in full to be paid.
If you miss it or don’t show up, you will not receive payment.
TalkShop mentors earn a flat, predictable rate:
$15 for a 30-minute session
$30 for a 60-minute session
You get paid for every completed session. There are no limits on how many sessions you can take.
We use a trusted third-party payment partner to handle payouts. After your first completed session, you’ll receive an email prompting you to choose how you’d like to get paid.
Payment options include:
Bank Transfer
Venmo
Cash App
PayPal
Other standard payout methods
You only need to set this up once. After that, all future session payments will go straight to the method you selected.
When payouts happen:
You get paid after the session is completed.
Payments typically arrive within a few business days of your session, and you will receive an email with instructions once your first session is completed.
If there’s ever an issue (rare, but possible), our support team will help you fix it quickly.
We know schedules can change. Here’s how it works:
If a student cancels:
You will receive an email notification.
You won’t get paid for a canceled session, but the slot goes back into your availability.
If you need to cancel:
You can cancel through your dashboard.
Please avoid last-minute cancellations unless absolutely necessary.
Frequent cancellations may affect whether we continue featuring you, and could result in your account being suspended.
Make sure your availability is accurate.
Check your email regularly for booking requests.
Connect your Google Calendar in your settings to block off the times you cannot meet so you don’t get requests you can’t accept.
